The Santa Cruz Museum of Natural History is thrilled to be partnering with the Sempervirens Fund to offer Jumbo July, a series highlighting enormous trees, forest-dwelling giants, and our collaborative exhibit: Treasured Trees: The Story of Coast Redwoods

Jumbo July wraps up by showcasing the giants dwelling within the redwood duff. These gargantuan trees hide an equally massive array of wildlife, and none more extraordinary than the seemingly mythical Giant Salamander.

There is a lot to unpack with these large legends and here is an opportunity to learn about their incredible survival abilities, diet, size, and behaviors. Dive into the secret life of salamanders with a conservation biologist who conducts fieldwork with these amazing animals that seem to be right out of your imagination.
